Aggregate Base
Dense-graded crushed stone layer between subgrade and pavement that spreads wheel loads. Compacts to roughly 120 lb per cubic foot. Residential driveways spec 6–8 inches; truck lots 8–10. Its gradation is governed by AASHTO M147.
