Formula & constants
Flexible pavement is built in layers: 1.5–2 in surface course and 3–4 in binder course of hot mix (145 lb/ft³) over 6–10 in of aggregate base (105 lb/ft³). Each layer is calculated and ordered separately. Every default in the fields above is editable — when your supplier’s spec sheet lists a different density, coverage rate or price, enter that number instead. The waste and compaction allowances follow common trade practice; see our methodology page for the derivation of each formula and the standards it references.
